GYN Office Review: Vulvar Disease and Abnormal Early Pregnancy

Vulvar diseases can be frustrating for both patients and providers because they are often a complex mix of several problems.The goal of the morning program is to provide education and training in conservative methods of treating common vulvar conditions in the outpatient setting. Conditions include: dermatoses, vulvodynia, and Bartholin’s gland. The first trimester of pregnancy can also be a vulnerable time, especially for women with a suspected abnormally developing pregnancy. The goal of the afternoon program is to provide education and training in the diagnosis and management of early abnormal pregnancies, and to provide training in manual vacuum aspiration, which can be performed in the outpatient setting for women with miscarriage. These educational activities are supported by a grant from the MAHEC Scholarly Academic Fund. 

OBJECTIVES 

Upon conclusion of this lecture and lab-based conference the participant will be able to: 

Morning Session 

• Cite best practice to manage vulvar pathology 

• Recognize and treat vulvar pathology and review criteria for specialist referral 

• Demonstrate punch biopsy and Word catheter insertion for Bartholin gland cysts on a sim model 

Afternoon Session 

• Cite best practice to manage abnormal 1st trimester pregnancy/loss 

• Recognize and treat abnormal 1st trimester pregnancy/ loss and review criteria for specialist referral 

• Demonstrate MVA on a sim lab model
