Program Description:
The mission of this Physician Assistant Fellowship program is to expand the knowledge and clinical skills of Physician Assistants in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology. We believe that with the intensive training gained through the program, our Physician Assistant Fellows (PA Fellows) will become exceptional providers in the inpatient, outpatient, and labor and delivery settings. This program teaches PA Fellows to manage complicated and non-complicated antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, postoperative, and acutely ill OB and GYN patients. The curriculum also includes labor and delivery experience, triage management, basic ultrasound, experience with evaluating and treating common OB and GYN complaints, much experience in routine OB and GYN outpatient care, and experience with procedures including IUD insertion/removal, Nexplanon insertion/removal, endometrial biopsy, and colposcopy. PA Fellows graduate with competence in performing vaginal deliveries and assisting in cesarean sections.
Within an ever-changing specialty, our PA Fellows graduate with skills geared toward continuous learning. This skill set makes them capable of adapting to changes in the general OB/GYN practice, as well as adapting to new knowledge in different sub-specialties that some of the available jobs require. Our PA Fellows are challenged to achieve their full clinical and personal potentials while being academically and emotionally supported.
Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC), a 456-bed university affiliated teaching hospital, is the county hospital for San Bernardino County. The OB/GYN team at ARMC, consisting of attending physicians, residents, staff PAs, and PA fellows, is committed to delivering quality and compassionate care to the underserved women of San Bernardino County.
The PA fellowship program is twelve months, with rotations in labor and delivery and outpatient clinics, as well as a night shift rotation and weekend call shifts. We offer our PA Fellows an annual stipend as well as medical, dental, and vision health benefits. Education allowance, food allowance, malpractice insurance, and vacation time will also be provided for our PA Fellows. PA Fellows attend daily lectures, conferences, and training courses in which they may receive additional CME credits. Student loan deferment may be available during the program.
Previous graduates have found jobs in their field of interest, and some of them continue working here in the department as staff PAs while taking care of patients and teaching PA Fellows.
