This will be a hands-on workshop that incorporates scanning of live models. This workshop is separate from the main conference registration fee and is offered at a low cost. Overview:
This is an introduction to POCUS in pregnancy. The first trimester training will be focused on confirmatory gestational dating, multiple gestation and ectopic pregnancy. The third trimester training will emphasize placental location, amniotic fluid volume, fetal position and the Biophysical Profile (BPP). Attendees will receive the didactic instruction by email prior to the in-person training. All attendees are asked to view the didactic information prior to the training.
The in-person training will feature 4 ultrasound stations with live models and an instructor to guide you in a brief opportunity to scan and time to observe scanning techniques and images as they are produced. Instructors are available to guide scanning as well as to answer your questions about POCUS.
Meet our Trainers:
Carolyn L. Gegor, CNM, MS, FACNM has had an extensive career in Ob/Gyn ultrasound. Carolyn is an instructor and owner at Ultrasound for Women’s Health Providers. Carolyn began her career in ultrasound as an RN in 1972. She learned ultrasound from a physician on-the-job as no courses were available that early in the development of ultrasound as a diagnostic test. Carolyn was one of the founders of the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and obtained her RDMS in 1973. She established American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) in Washington, DC and Maryland. For several years she worked full time in ultrasound then went back to her love of labor & birth while continuing to teach ultrasound skills in obstetrics and gynecology. Once she became a CNM Carolyn was very active teaching nurses and midwives to do the Biophysical Profile. She was the Clinical Director of Fetal Assessment at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital while practicing full scope midwifery. After retiring, Ms. Gegor created Ultrasound for Midwives, now Ultrasound for Women’s Health Providers to be able to offer highly sought-after hands-on scanning and the necessary background knowledge for doing OB/Gyn Point of Care ultrasound.
Gay Hull, WHNP, OB/GYN RDMS is a Women’s Health NP and a Registered Diagnostic Sonographer in OB/GYN. She has specialized in OB/GYN point-of-care ultrasound education in the past several years and is an instructor for Ultrasound for Women’s Health Providers. Previously, Gay has worked for many years in an OB/GYN clinical practice in Texas and a Maternal-Fetal Medicine practice in Colorado and New Mexico. She has also in recent years served as Part-Time Faculty at the University of New Mexico College of Nursing.
Gay received a BSN from the University of Texas and an MSN/NP from the University of Colorado. Her studies in ultrasound were at Thomas Jefferson in Philadelphia. Gay holds a Board certification in Women’s Health through NCC National Certification Corp. and in OB/GYN ultrasound through ARDMS. Her enthusiasm for sharing her knowledge and skills in limited OB/GYN ultrasound with other professionals is endless. She sees the benefits and patient satisfaction for POCUS skills in clinical practice and care management for Women’s Health professionals. When not traveling to teach OB/GYN ultrasound, Gay resides in Southern Colorado with her husband and two English Labs, Bevo and Zuzu, where she enjoys the beautiful outdoors and all the great activities that go with it.

Colposcopy training will give attendees an opportunity to have hands-on practice with varying degrees of cervical lesions utilizing a patented cervical trainer. Participants will be asked to complete didactic education pre-workshop to best utilize the full hour for engaging practice with simulation material. Cervical models are built to allow for the visualization of lesions and for biopsies to be taken with real colposcopic instrumentation. Post-biopsy, trainers will be removed and evaluated for completeness of the biopsy technique. This low-stress, high-output workshop will improve learner technique and decrease patient discomfort.
